Magnetized water: Universal Source of Health?

by Hans R. Larsen, MSc ChE

Benefits of Magnetized Water

The human body is profoundly responsive to electromagnetic fields. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a powerful medical diagnostic technique which uses magnetic fields to distinguish between healthy and diseased tissues. Treatment with pulsed electromagnets (pulsars) has been found highly effective in curing or alleviating conditions such as bone fractures, migraine headaches, insomnia and depression. Pads and mattresses with built-in magnets are used to alleviate insomnia, rheumatic pain, migraines and circulatory problems. Says Dr. Wolfgang Ludwig ScD PhD of the Institute for Biophysics in Horb, Germany "Magnetic field therapy is a method that penetrates the whole human body and can treat every organ without chemical side effects"(1,5-8).

The effects of the North pole (negative) and South pole (positive) magnetism are quite different. North polarity stabilizes, calms and sedates and also reduces pain, infection and inflammation. South polarity, on the other hand, is acid producing, enervating, biologically disorganizing and may accelerate bacteria growth. Magnets with a South polarity should only be used under the care of a trained practitioner if at all(1,6).

The fact that our bodies consist mainly of water and that all our bodily processes are heavily dependent on water has lead to research into the possibility of using magnetized water to promote health and treat disease. For those of us who associate magnetism with intricate patterns of iron filings between the poles of a magnet the idea that water can be magnetized sounds pretty far out. However, there is ample evidence that magnetizing water either with permanent magnets or with electromagnets actuallly has a profound effect. The first practical application of water magnetization occurred in the 1950's when engineers discovered that magnetically treated water had a greatly reduced tendency to form scale when heated. Several explanations for this have been advanced. The most plausible being that magnetization breaks up the "clusters" of water which surround lime and other "foreign" molecules. By doing so these molecules get the opportunity to crystallize and be carried along in the water rather than deposit themselves on the walls of the pipes. Although this explanation has many proponents it does not fully explain why magnetized water also dissolves old scale deposits(9-12).

Magnetized water has also been found useful in the treatment of swimming pool water. Researchers at the University of Cranfield in the UK recently discovered that they could reduce the amount of chlorine needed to kill bacteria in a pool by 30 percent.  Dr. Klaus Kronenberg, a professor at the California State Polytechnic University, has found that the use of magnetized swimming pool water essentially eliminates the deposits formed where the top surface of the water meets the sides of the pool(13-15).

Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina recently reported that cleaning the teeth with water from a magnetized irrigator can reduce calculus formation by over 60 per cent and improve overall gum health(16).

Israeli agricultural researchers found that the use of magnetized water increased farm yields by anywhere from 5 to 20 per cent. Cows drinking magnetized water produced more milk and were healthier than cows drinking untreated water. Sheep produced more wool and meat, hens laid more eggs and all farm animals survived longer when drinking magnetized water(9,10,17).

Anecdotal evidence of the health benefits of magnetized water abounds. Magnetized water is claimed to be energy-building, activating, cleansing and detoxifying. There are reports of people resolving bladder problems, recovering quickly from a stroke, alleviating arthritis pain and reducing blood pressure by drinking magnetized water. It is perhaps reasonable to assume that if scientific studies on animals have proven that magnetized water has health benefits, then it should also be beneficial to humans. However, so far there have been no systematic, clinical trials done to prove or disprove the healing effects of magnetized water in humans(1,17,18).

Revitalizing Our Water
The vitalizing and healing properties of magnetized water are believed to be intimately tied in with its "memory". Fresh, "virgin" water from a mountain stream is full of vitality especially if it has flowed over volcanic rock which is highly paramagnetic. During its passage through contaminated soil, miles of iron or plastic pipe, and treatment plants where it is exposed to toxic chemicals it loses its vitality. By the time it comes out of the tap it is essentially lifeless. Some researchers believe that the average city tap water may actually be harmful, not only because of its content of toxins, but also because it has developed a polarity which is harmful to our health. Other researchers suggest that the degradation of our tap water can bring its vitality lower than the vitality of the human body, resulting in feeling drained and tired after a shower or bath(9,17,19).

Fortunately, recent research has shown that it is possible to regenerate water to its original healthy state by magnetizing it. It is now clear that water has a very definite structure. A water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and an oxygen atom. Because of the electron configuration of the molecule the hydrogen atoms tend to attract other water molecules resulting in the formation of clusters which can contain anywhere from four to hundreds of water molecules each. Some very exciting research done in Hungary has shown that these clusters actually have a memory and can remember and carry an imprint of the magnetic energy they have been exposed to either simply from the earth's magnetic field or through flowing over paramagnetic rock. It is the fact that this memory is devastated on the way to the tap which renders our drinking water lifeless(9,19-22).

Water can be re-magnetized by passing it through pipes which have permanently magnetized.  In stationary (overnight) magnetization it is important to ensure that only negatively polarized water or mixed negative and positive water is used. Magnetized water is softer than tap water so magnetization can result in significant savings in detergent and soap use. It also helps prevent deposits on cutlery and glasses washed in a dish washer and can even make hair shinier.

Johann Grander and Heinrich Antosch, both disciples of the "father of water magnetization", Dr. Viktor Schauberger, have developed units which produce "living water". The units first use violent vortex mixing in a special chamber to eliminate the water's memory of pollutants, chlorine, etc. and then imprint a beneficial magnetic memory on the water before it exits the tap. The units are installed under the sink or on the main water line and should always be situated after any other filters and treatment devices(9,17,18).

Treatment with Paramagnetic Soil
A very recent development in magnetic water treatment involves the use of paramagnetic soil. Paramagnetic soil comes from volcanic rock which was permanently imprinted with the earth's magnetic field just before it solidified. Paramagnetic rock and soil are not ferromagnetic (does not attract iron filings) but their magnetic dipoles are aligned in such a way that the soil or rock is strongly attracted to a regular magnet. Due to the age of the rock the "magnetic field" imbedded in it is often quite strong, considerably stronger than the earth's magnetic field today. It is interesting that many holy sites and healing spas were built near paramagnetic rock formations. Perhaps our ancestors were able to feel directly the benefits of paramagnetism(19,23).

The use of water treated by contact with paramagnetic soil is still in its infancy. However, agricultural experiments have clearly shown that both the paramagnetic soil itself (used as a fertilizer) and irrigation with paramagnetically treated water increase yields and plant vigour significantly(23).

Anecdotal evidence of health benefits are emerging and inexpensive treatment equipment is being developed. A concerted effort is also being undertaken to develop reliable methods of actually measuring the effects of treating water either with magnets or paramagnetic soil. There is some indication that the UV (ultraviolet) spectrum of water is changed by magnetization and Dr. Thomas Narvaez, a researcher in Washington State, has successfully used radionics to measure the vitality of treated water. A clinical trial is in the planning stage to evaluate the benefits of magnetized water in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome(19,21,22,24-26).  Magnetized water is truly emerging as one of the most exciting developments in the ongoing battle to protect our health.

Magnetized Water

Magnetized Water

Michael Lam, MD, MPH

Some decades ago, Russian scientists faced a major industrial problem. When water flows through pipelines of a boiler or an engine machinery, some deposits from the water cling to the walls of the pipes. Over time, the lumen becomes narrower and the delivery of water to the machinery is reduced. The efficiency, fuel consumption and mechanical strength of the

While researching on this problem, scientists noticed that such undesirable deposits did not occur in those pipes with water that was magnetized. This started the magnetization of water for industrial use in countries where water source is less than desirable

Scientists became highly interested in studying magnetism. Water is a transparent fluid that has no color, odor, shape or taste of its own. It takes the shape of its container and the color, odor and taste of other things mixed with it. It is a near-universal solvent. It has the property of being able to assimilate the properties of other things. Researchers found when a permanent magnet is kept in contact with water for a considerable time; the water gets magnetically charged and acquires magnetic properties. Such magnetized water has its effect even on the human body when taken internally and regularly for a considerable period.

Use of magnets in Healing

Ancient people have used magnetized water also without understanding its mechanism of action. Streams flowing over natural magnets in the shape of stones and boulders became magnetized and their water, when consumed by the people of that age, provided miraculous cures and energy.

In India, the use of magnets in healing (called Indian Magnetotherapy) is an ancient therapy. Literature had described the use of magnets to stop bleeding thousands of years ago.

In recent decades, there has been a resurgence in the use of magnetic in healing of a variety of ailments, primarily in pain control of chronic degenerative diseases such as arthritis.

How Magnets Work

Magnets have two poles, North and South. It is based on Nature's law. Every cell in the human body can be viewed as a small magnetic unit. This property is present in all organs. Each cell produces its own magnetic field. Any disturbance in this magnetic field indicates a disorder. This equilibrium can be restored with the help of magnets, according to many researchers.

Technically, magnetism works because it increases the speed of sedimentation of suspended particles in water (and other liquids) and enhances conductivity as well as the process of ionization or dissociation of atoms and molecules into electrically charged particles. (New Scientist, June 1992.)

Physics shows that chemicals change weight under the influence of magnetic fields; so does water. More hydroxyl (OH-) ions are created to form calcium bicarbonate and other alkaline molecules. It is these molecules that help reduce acidity.

Normal tap water has a pH level of about 7, whereas magnetized water can reach 7.8 pH after exposure to a 7000 gauss strength magnet for a long period of time. Cancer cells do not survive well in an alkaline environment.

Magnets also affect the bonding angle between the hydrogen and the oxygen atom in the water molecule. Magnetized water causes the hydrogen-oxygen bond angle within the water molecule to be reduced from 104 to 103 degrees. This in turn causes the water molecule to cluster together in groups of 6-7 rather than 10-12. The smaller cluster leads to better absorption of water across cell walls. There have been numerous reports, of those drinking magnetized water daily, of people being cured of many chronic degenerative disease such as renal stones and arthritis.

Human Applications

Experience has shown that magnetized water contributes and helps in the treatment of many diseases. It is especially beneficial in treating digestive, nervous, urinary disorders, and chronic degenerative diseases. . Some researchers pointed out the apparent difference between water exposed to the north versus the south pole. It is believed that water magnetized by the North Pole stops the growth of bacteria and works as an antibiotic. Water magnetized by the South Pole takes care of pain, swelling and weakness. Water magnetized by both North and South Poles enhances overall general health. Well documented scientific evidence to show the differences between north and south poles and their effects on health is still inconclusive,

The degree of magnetization depends on three things:

1. The quantity of liquid put on the magnet.
2. The power of the magnet used for the purpose.
3. The duration of the contact of the liquid container with the magnet.

These three factors will naturally determine the degree of magnetization. Although we can measure the power of a magnet, we have no method of measuring the degree of magnetization of water. In the absence of any definite measure, only experience can guide us.

A simple way to magnetize water is to keep two liter jugs of water on the two poles of encased disc magnets of about 3000 gausses, normally for twelve to twenty-four hours.

A simpler and more modern way is to have water pass through magnetic discs of up to 10,000 gausses momentarily in order to achieve a similar effect.

Health Benefits

The reported health benefits of magnetized water are many, including:

Acidity and Other Digestive Disorders: Magnetized water reduces excess acidity and bile in the digestive system. It helps to regulate the movement of the bowels expelling all accumulations of poisonous matter.

Kidney Stones: The use of magnetic water in urinary and kidney disorders has been documented. In scientific studies, magnetic water has been prescribed to persons suffering from renal calculus. An adult suffering from renal stone is advised to drink one-liter of magnetic water per day, while in case of child it is 500ml per day. Results have been very encouraging.

Low Blood Pressure and Nervous System: Magnetized water is also very beneficial for nervous disorders and treatment of blood pressure, especially low blood pressure. It gives a soothing and slightly sedative effect to the nerves, aids in clearing clogged arteries, and normalizes the circulatory system.

Asthma/Bronchitis: Magnetized water is effective in the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, colds, coughs and certain types of fevers.

Healing of Wounds: Magnetized water has been used as an external aid for washing swollen and sore eyes, wounds, eczema spots, etc. for quicker healing. In all types of eye infections, north pole magnetized water has healing and anti-biotic type properties.

Conclusion:

The use of magnetized water in the treatment of chronic disease is still in the infancy stage of investigation. Magnetism is widely used in medical diagnostics, including Magnetic Resonance Scanning devices for detection of a variety of internal organ dysfunction, including cancer.

BIO-MAGNETICS

It is important to know that the body constantly uses the two elements of oxygen and hydrogen independently. The oxygen cleans cellular waste as the cells metabolize energy and the hydrogen controls the proper functioning of the glands and organs. In bio-magnetics, a testing magnet is used over each gland or organ to test whether it has the proper amount of hydrogen activity. If it is low in hydrogen, there will be a reflex response to the Negative Pole indicating a hypo-hydrogen state. If there is a reflex response to the Positive Pole, the body has too much hydrogen indicating a hyper-hydrogen state. It is important to note that most unhealthy conditions are indicated by the hypo- or low hydrogen state, indicating that the body is low on hydrogen.

Water, the key element that is essential for living, is comprised of hydrogen and oxygen in its basic state. Although the body receives most of its oxygen from breathing, it receives most of its hydrogen from drinking water. In addition to receiving hydrogen from water, the body also makes full use of the oxygen in the water. That is why it is recommended to drink a lot of water every day so your body will get its proper amount of both of these essential elements.

In all liquid chemistry, molecules of the same type cling together in what are called chemical associations. These associations are like grapes as they bunch together. When normal water associations enter your body after drinking a glass of water, only the outer molecules of the grape-like cluster can be metabolized to break up and use the hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Since the inner molecules of the grape-like associations are all stuck together, they are not easily broken apart and are not efficiently available for metabolizing in the body.

It is important to note that regardless of whether the water is magnetized Positive or Negative, the water becomes molecularly mono-atomic. The Positively charged water has a lower surface tension as the bonding lengths between the atoms lengthen under the expanding magnetic influence. The Negatively charged water has a higher surface tension as the bonding length shortens under the contracting magnetic influence.

In physics, this is known as Positive up-spin or Negative down-spin. When the mono-atomic water molecules enter the body, the body can more efficiently metabolize more of the singular oxygen and hydrogen atom. This greater availability of the hydrogen and oxygen provides the body with its full requirements of these important elements and as a result, the body starts to function in balance and begins to heal itself.

Many people question whether they should drink North Pole water or South Pole water. Actually, both are important and each has its own particular benefits. When water is magnetized, a charge value is put into the water. This value is in the same range as that of the human body. By drinking the charged water, it adds vitality to the body. Most people who use this system already have South Pole Positively charged water automatically. Since Positively charged water hydrates and dissolves minerals, it is very good for the body because dissolved minerals are more available and assimilate (metabolize) easier. Positively charged water can be very useful when taking vitamins. Since the basic cellular charge of a healthy body is negative, dissolved vitamin/mineral supplements in positive water are more easily put through the cell walls for more efficient nutrition. Positively charged water gives energy and vitality.
